Anyone who wants to keep up with the market is confronted with constant cost pressure. One of the biggest cost drivers for manufacturing companies is storage costs. Above all, interim storage is responsible for this.
Cross docking transport & warehouse
The logistics industry is under constant pressure to be flexible and cut costs. New ways to save costs and accelerate delivery times are welcome. With the help of cross docking software solutions ("cross docking"), companies can reduce storage costs. Savings can be made on storage capacity, as well as storage and retrieval processes. With cross docking, the aim is not to store goods, but to handle them directly and ship them on to the customer. If the goods are not stored, the storage and retrieval of the goods can be saved, as well as storage capacity.
Variants of cross docking
In the case of single-stage cross docking, the goods are ordered on an order-by-order basis, so the supplier already performs the logistical service of pre-picking the consignments so that they only need to be relabeled at the customer´s premises and shipped to the end customer. Cross docking shipments are already marked as such by the system, so that no further storage in the warehouse takes place here, but a direct transfer to the shipping area.
In two-stage cross docking, order-related pre-packing by the supplier has not taken place. A goods receipt takes place when part or all of the order items have been ordered on an order-related basis. These are parked in the required quantities in an intermediate area, i.e. briefly put into storage, in order to then directly carry out order-related picking and make them ready for dispatch.
With both variants, storage capacities as well as routes and thus real time are saved, since storage only takes place when it is absolutely necessary. A constant turnover of goods thus reduces storage costs, i.e. capital commitment and overall storage costs.

Cross Docking Software Solution Modules
In cross docking, it is particularly important that all processes run smoothly. To this end, all process steps within the supply chain should be as transparent as possible and interlock. It is also particularly important that delivery deadlines are met. The decisive factor for functioning cross docking is that the right goods are in the right place at the right time.
With a COSYS complete solution for transport management, you can not only monitor and manage your entire goods transport, but also operate cross docking. All goods are scanned with an MDE device or smartphone before they are moved in any way, making each good traceable. Each mobile device synchronizes its database with the cloud/server in real time. In COSYS WebDesk, tour, delivery status, master data, orders can be viewed and individual shipments can be searched. For each shipment, the software can display which process steps have been completed and where the package is located. So you never lose the overview.
Goods receipt
Optimize your goods receipt with COSYS software by using an MDE device to record new goods and check them against delivery bills, which not only saves paperwork, but also brings more security, since goods are checked directly. Countermeasures in case of defects can be initiated quickly to maintain and protect the product quality.
Storage is an important process in the warehouse and should be done carefully. Inaccurate documentation of the storage process would result in incorrect inventory levels in the inventory management system and consequently warehouse staff having to search for specific items. Mobile data capture accurately records storage by assigning items to be stored to a bin location.
Speed and precision are expected in picking to get as many customer orders ready for shipment as possible. However, it often happens that despite accurate pick lists, the wrong goods are picked from the warehouse. At this point COSYS helps you by providing digital pick lists on MDE devices and processing them by barcode scanning. This minimizes errors, since articles are always checked against orders.
In order to enable effective transport logistics, the COSYS loading software module enables the transparent design of the loading process. The user can select a delivery bill and scan all listed items against the delivery bill via article scan and target/actual comparison. Incorrect loading is thus avoided.
Every company is confronted with returns on a daily basis and should handle them professionally for the benefit of the customer. No matter if the returns are faulty goods or missing quantities. COSYS supports you in the recording of returns and ensures that they are properly recorded and processed.
After picking, goods are packed again for parcel shipment. The shipment completion message is used here. During packing, each item is scanned against the corresponding delivery bill before it is placed in the package or loading equipment. This avoids incorrectly packed goods and makes shipment control more efficient. The shipment completion message is then generated, giving the green light for further shipment.
COSYS solutions have standardized interfaces to the most common ERP systems, which enable a smooth connection of the COSYS software to your IT. By means of COSYS WebService a seamless data import and export is enabled to allow a real-time data exchange.
WebDesk is a web-based administration and post-processing software in which production/customer orders can optionally be created and made available for MDE devices.
Outgoing goods is the last warehouse process before the package is loaded for transport and delivered to the customer. With COSYS, this last step is accompanied and digitally recorded. In addition to the documentation of the loading and delivery, the stocks in the warehouse are also checked again for deviations.
Cross docking must be well prepared. An overview of how many orders need to be processed by cross docking today or tomorrow is provided by the COSYS WebDesk for the warehouse foreman / warehouse manager. In an overview are the open orders, their processing status, the number of order items and their priority. Employees can be effectively assigned orders, individual orders can be combined or separated to map the logistics optimized.
Cross Docking WebDesk - Picking Positions
By right-clicking on an order, the order items can be viewed. In addition to the status of the processing of the article number and article text, the ordered quantities and units of measure are also visible. This overview can be used to separate items into partial orders, for example if they are available in another storage area or if one item is shipped via cross docking and the other is in stock.
Cross Docking WebDesk - storage bin suggestions
In order to control efficient replenishment logistics, the backend provides storage location suggestions to support the warehouse operator through the warehouse in accordance with FiFo and route-optimized.
Cross Docking WebDesk - Move order
The marked position can be assigned to a new partial order as well as to an employee. In addition, the position can be added to an existing partial order to achieve two-stage picking and the reduction of walking distances.
