Processing and documenting customer orders quickly and without errors is the task of warehouse logistics and, in particular, of order pickers. Warehouse picking represents an elementary logistics process in which the available goods must be collected, checked and packed in a short time. Every customer has requirements for order picking, whereby certain sectors have special demands, such as e-commerce or the order picking of medicines and foodstuffs: many individual orders and small quantities in e-commerce, legal documentation requirements in the order picking of medicines and always an up-to-date stock overview, MHD and batch tracking in the order picking of foodstuffs. Added to this are internal needs such as rapid delivery to the company´s own stores or collection of goods in order to fill the sales floor quickly.
The picker scans barcodes of the desired goods in the warehouse using an MDE device or smartphone, where the order quantity, article description and, if necessary, other comments are stored. The employee can thus pick goods without errors, analogous to the master data (articles and order data) in the COSYS WebDesk or ERP system. Compared to methods such as picking with pick by light (light-guided goods identification) and picking with pick by voice (voice-guided goods identification), scanner picking has the advantage that it can be integrated without making structural changes directly in the warehouse.
Employees can gather all goods across orders in stage 1 using barcode scanning, and then divide the goods by order in stage 2.
For picking, the goods are grouped into shipping units and then provided with barcodes. In this way, the shipping unit can be recorded as a whole via the barcode.
If goods for an order are located in different warehouses or production areas, a batch of the same or similar items is picked and later combined.

All current orders can be viewed and edited in the COSYS WebDesk. The order date, entry time, order number, customer number, order status, positions and priority are displayed.
You can select and edit the individual orders. When you enter an order, you can edit the positions or create partial orders. This way you can assign each order/item to an employee.
Items of a picking order are displayed in tabular form. The status, item number, item text, quantity, unit, etc. are displayed. You can also see the current processing status. The processing status shows orders that are not processed, are currently being processed or are finished.

To choose the right principle for your warehouse depends on your goods. If you have products with MHD (best before date), picking according to the FIFO principle is recommended. This is the only way to ensure that the oldest goods are shipped first. For small products such as screws or other C-parts, the LIFO principle (Last In-First Out) is recommended.
