EU Hub
The European HUB is the database for medicinal products. Since Regulation 2011/62/EU, all movements of medicinal products are reported to this EU hub. This reporting is done by scanning 2D data matrix codes.
Pharmaceutical manufacturers and parallel importers operating on the European market connect to the EU hub and upload the data of their circulating drugs to the EU hub.

What is the role of each actor?
Pharmaceutical manufacturers report the serial number and manufacturing data to the EU hub, they print the data matrix code that uniquely identifies each pharmaceutical package with a serial number
Wholesalers record the risk class in each case and report to the EU hub.
Pharmacists and hospitals record the data matrix code with the serial number before dispensing to the patient and have to verify that the package is registered and not under recall. If the code is known and has not yet been marked as "dispensed", the drug may be handed over to the patient and booked out of the system as "dispensed".
